The Signs of Progress Have Arrived

The JWest Community Campaign is officially underway with an open call to the entire community: Are you in yet?

After years of shared vision, careful planning and collaboration, we are on the precipice of groundbreaking and ready to invite you to join donors, corporations and the Federal and Provincial governments in supporting JWest. What will this look like? First, you will spot new signage in the Jewish Community Centre and King David High School highlighting the features of the new buildings.

Second, you will see more communication through email, social media and print media, highlighting new donors, progress on the project and other points of interest to the community.

The JWest Community Campaign is a critical milestone for the project, marking the start of final preparations before construction begins. With momentum building, this is the moment for our broader Jewish community to come together and help bring JWest fully to life.

A Campus for the Community, A Future for Everyone

The Jewish community is part of the multicultural fabric of the region. Our tradition teaches that each generation plants for those who come after us, and that is a theme that has guided this project and the community consultations in which our shared vision is rooted.

JWest is creating new and improved community facilities that will meet the needs of generations to come. Here is a look at what’s to come:

  • 8-Lane, 25-Metre Aquatics Centre: Designed for swim lessons, recreational fun, and competitive meets, with accessible change rooms for all ages.

  • Expanded King David High School (KDHS): A new, 25% larger facility designed to accommodate up to 400 students, strengthening its position as a leading-edge high school through innovative academic programming and integration into a shared campus with the Jewish Community Centre.

  • King David High School Gym & Athletics: A top-quality gym and outdoor practice field to provide better training and competition venues for KDHS students.

  • Expanded Childcare Centre & Rooftop Playground: Addressing urgent needs, with more spots and a safe, fun rooftop play area.

  • Multi-Function Theatre & Auditorium: Fully accessible, ideal for films, live performances, and gathering.

  • Renewed Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre: A state-of-the-art museum for vital Holocaust-based anti-racism education, serving 25,000+ students and visitors a year.

  • Café & Atrium Gathering Spaces: A bright, welcoming atrium and café for informal meetups, celebrations, and everyday connections.

  • Home for 20+ Not-Profits: Permanent space for more than twenty community organizations, making JWest a hub for social services, programs, and support networks.

  • Affordable Rental Housing: When market conditions are right, eventually, over 600 homes, including below-market units, to help address Vancouver’s housing demands for singles, families, and seniors.

West is not just a project. It’s a living legacy, centred on inclusion, Jewish learning, and care, and shaped by years of community conversation. Picture your children learning to swim in the JCC pool, seniors connecting over coffee in a warm, bright atrium, or young people staying active in upgraded gyms and classrooms. Through the support of community members like you, we will be able to deliver a legacy for generations: a campus where family, neighbours, and members of our Jewish community can connect in meaningful ways every day.

Donate Today and Be Part of a Legacy

Every gift to JWest is part of a collective effort that turns shared values and vision into a lasting community legacy. No single gift builds JWest on its own, but every gift helps to expand childcare, deliver affordable homes, sustain the arts, Jewish learning, and wellness programs, and creates shared belonging for all. Giving to JWest is a way to actively shape the future of our Jewish community for generations to come.

Momentum is Building. Let’s Finish Strong

This progress is only possible because of our Jewish community’s collective generosity and engagement, proving that when everyone comes together, real impact follows. JWest is a community-led initiative, where every donor’s gift, large or small, directly shapes not just state-of-the-art buildings but the lived experiences of all who call Vancouver home. Already, we have raised over $150 million from philanthropy, and we have just a small distance to go.

With a goal of $18 million to raise, we are looking to each and every member of the community to get us there. Participating today helps shape a future-focused development that will belong to and benefit our entire Jewish community, and the Oakridge neighbourhood as a whole.

"The JWest Community Campaign is a powerful moment for all of us. It’s a clear message that the future we've been working toward is here. The writing is quite literally on the wall that this project is happening, and we are getting close. We are grateful to everyone who has brought us to this point, and we are excited to welcome the entire community to help us finish this incredible project", Alex Cristall, Chair, JWest Foundation.

The JWest project would not be possible without the generous funding from the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the Diamond Foundation, and the Ronald S Roadburg and Al Roadburg Foundations, as well as the steadfast support of the Jewish community and its allies, and the valuable contributions of the Vancouver residents who use the current Jewish Community Centre.
