A smart investment in our community's future.
Early Momentum
Last week, we officially launched the JWest Community Campaign, building on years of visionary leadership and support that have brought us to this moment. This public phase expands that strong foundation, as new families join a broader circle of long-standing supporters and community champions. Donation flow has started. Conversations are turning into commitments.
This early traction matters. This phase is not only about dollars raised — it’s about visible participation. It signals confidence and reinforces that JWest is not just a future idea, but a project advancing toward construction.
We are now entering the next stage of this once-in-a-generation investment in Jewish life in Vancouver, with $18 million remaining in this phase.
Why This Moment Matters for Development
As Joe Khalifa, Vice Chair of JWest Corp., shared this week:
“Our responsibility is not simply to dream — it is to steward wisely. We have advanced planning, government alignment, and the current environment supports responsible progress toward construction. Families are already stepping forward. This is how we ensure Jewish life in Vancouver remains strong and confident for the next generation.”
JWest has been thoughtfully planned and stewarded for years. It’s the result of disciplined preparation, strong governance, and long-term community vision.
In today’s environment, projects that are well-structured, community-backed, and aligned with real institutional need are best positioned to advance responsibly as approvals progress. JWest reflects that readiness and intention:
The first phase will prioritize delivering a six-storey, 200,000 square foot, multi-generational Jewish Community Centre with expanded childcare, seniors’ services, arts and cultural programming, and a permanent home for more than 20 not-for-profit organizations — organizations that represent the core infrastructure of Jewish life across Vancouver, spanning education, advocacy, heritage, social services, and cultural programming — bringing this vital ecosystem of Jewish community together under one roof.
This phase will also deliver a renewed King David High School, providing modern academic, athletic, and extracurricular facilities for a growing student body, with construction beginning once the new JCC is complete.
The second phase introduces thoughtfully designed rental housing, including below-market homes, strengthening stability in a rapidly evolving Oakridge neighbourhood.
Advancing this project is possible through your support. You can be part of a transformative opportunity to change the Oakridge neighbourhood for our Jewish community.
Smart Giving: Understanding the Investment Advantages
Supporting JWest is a meaningful way to build a community legacy, and it can also offer financial advantages. As we approach the end of the fiscal year, charitable giving can be aligned with financial planning. You may wish to explore options such as:
Charitable tax credits for donations
Gifts of appreciated securities, which may reduce capital gains exposure
Multi-year pledges aligned with your broader financial strategy
We encourage you to consult with a trusted financial advisor to determine the approach that works best for you and your family.
The Final $18 Million
This campaign has already secured $147 million — a significant achievement made possible by families, community leaders, institutional partners, and individuals like you who believe deeply in our vision. extraordinary generosity and partnership. The remaining $18 million represents broad community participation in this stage.
This project belongs to our entire community. Our Chaverim. Students. Parents. Alumni. Seniors. Volunteers. Donors. Neighbours.
Early commitments have begun. The road to construction and the development of this project is aligning. The path forward is clear.
Momentum is building. Now is the time to step forward and help complete the final $18 million.
