Development Permit Awarded to JCC Construction
Following Vancouver City Council’s approval of JWest’s rezoning application in July and the Groundbreaking Ceremony in September, we are pleased to announce another important milestone:
The Development Permit for the new Diamond Jewish Community Centre has been approved.
This approval confirms the City’s acceptance of the proposed six-storey JCC building, including its placement on the site and exterior design. The next step in the permitting process is the Building Permit, beginning with Stage 1: Excavation and Shoring.
The Stage 1 application was submitted earlier in 2026, and approval is anticipated in the coming weeks.
This is an exciting step forward and an important milestone as we continue to prepare for construction. We’ll be in touch directly before we begin with details on what it means for visiting the JCC. In the meantime, and throughout construction, the JCC you know and love remains open, with fitness, swim and all of your favourite programs continuing as usual.
Community Campaign Continues to Grow
The JWest Community Campaign continues to gain momentum, with an additional $650,000 raised recently, bringing the total to $7,653,223 toward our $18 million goal.
The Community Campaign supports the future of both the Diamond Jewish Community Centre and King David High School, bringing our community closer to realizing the full vision for the Roadburg Campus.
The Community Campaign has welcomed 117 new donors, reflecting growing participation from individuals and families across our community. We are especially grateful to those who have chosen to increase their commitments, building on pledges made two or more years ago.
The project has also received strong support from corporate and institutional partners.
We are pleased to welcome HUB as our newest corporate donor, with a generous $100,000 commitment to JWest. Ariel Jack Lewinski, Commercial Account Executive at HUB International Insurance Brokers, shared his thoughts on supporting JWest:
“It is an absolute privilege for HUB International to partner with and corporately support the JWest development to the benefit of the entire Jewish community of Vancouver”
With just over $11 million remaining to reach our Community Campaign goal, there is still important work ahead. The growing number of individuals and organizations choosing to support JWest reflects a shared commitment to building a stronger future for our community.

Every gift, at any level, brings us closer to making the Roadburg Campus a reality. We invite you to be part of what comes next.
Looking Ahead: King David High School
As plans for the Diamond Jewish Community Centre advance, we are looking ahead to the next phase of the Roadburg Campus: the future King David High School.
KDHS and JWest have set the framework and timeline for engaging the school's leadership and staff on the vision, priorities and needs of the school. Planning for KDHS will begin shortly after JCC construction starts. These early discussions will focus on updating the previous work on the physical needs of the school. Building on the collaboration that has shaped JWest from the beginning, this groundwork starts us on the path to delivering a school that will serve students and families for generations to come.
We look forward to sharing more as this next phase takes shape!
The JWest project would not be possible without the generous funding from the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, the Diamond Foundation, and the Ronald S. Roadburg and Al Roadburg Foundations, as well as the steadfast support of the Jewish community and its allies, and the valuable contributions of the Vancouver residents who use the current Jewish Community Centre.
